Undoubtedly the most difficult genre to sing. In opera, unlike in any other style, the breathing technique is completely different. In any other singing style, the direction of singing and the sound is forward into the microphone, but in opera everything is backwards; the inhalation is done from the top to the bottom of the body and the sound goes the opposite way: it goes back. Any person can learn how to sing opera with my methodology. They can also sing any other style. Each of the styles will sound like it should. My aspiration is not to teach to sing with opera technique and then have the performer sing pop sounding like an opera singer, unless that is what they want their performance to sound, rather to allow them to sing any genre and have them discover the wide range of options they have professionally if they control the airflow correctly and allow themselves “to be”: be relaxed, but actively in control of their craft while they sing.
